FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE ON THE TEAM SQUAD?

We aim to keep squad numbers between 12 and 14.

We wont go higher than 14 as we feel this starts to diminish the effectiveness of coaching sessions.

If we were ever lucky enough to have three coaches per team we would revisit this max number

HOW MANY PLAYERS GO TO EACH MATCH?

The rules allow us to take 12 players to each game.

Typically we will only take 10 players to a game to ensure they each get sufficient game time to make the trip worthwhile.

Each game is between 32 mins (U11s) and 40 mins (U12 and over) with only five players on the court at any one time.

Taking 12 players means each player may get less than half a game. When you consider the drive to play Eastbourne thats a long way to play not a lot of basketball.

HOW MUCH DO THE GAMES COST?

Currently, if you are selected for a match, the cost is £6 per game.

This covers the costs of court hire, referees and table officials for our home games.

The cost to play a home game is approx: £120

AM I GUARANTEED TO GET PICKED FOR MATCHES?

Its unlikely that all players will play in the same amount of matches through the season. This is usually due to factors out of our control, in particular player availability.

However, we will do all we can to ensure everyone attends as many games as possible.

WHEN PICKED TO PLAY A MATCH AM I GUARANTEED TO GET EQUAL GAME TIME?

No - This is at the coaches discretion.

The teams we play are of a wide range of playing abilities. Some play for South East England others are beginners.

Therefore, we try to balance game time across an entire year not on an individual game basis.

We wont put players in a situation where their self confidence is impacted in a negative way. Conversely we won't play in a way that would impact the oppositions self confidence if we were that much stronger.

IS IT ALL ABOUT THE WINNING?

No - sure we all love to win and do well but Eagles is more than that.

We want to introduce kids to a wonderful game (with no muddy touchlines in the winter for the parents!)

We try to teach them new skills and build teamwork that extends beyond passing a ball.

Where they show talent and a desire to take basketball to the next level we will help them on their way to playing National League basketball.

There are some great Sussex clubs who offer the next level up all while they continue their local basketball with us.
